MMA fighters at Core Cambridge
Last night, the ‘Tsunami Gym’ mixed martial arts fight team (headed by Robbie Olivier, the current British Cage Rage featherweight champion) started their training with us.
As I’m personally quite a fan of the sport, I was delighted when Robbie (who currently holds british featherweight and international lightweight titles) contacted us to help prepare his MMA fighters for their forthcoming competitions.
Each of the fighters has been physically tested to determine their strengths and weaknesses. From this we’ve devised individualised programmes for each fighter, as well as group training sessions designed to develop the team’s flexability, speed, strength and power.
“As soon as I stepped into the building and starting talking to you guys, I knew you could help take us to the next level” said Robbie. “After this first session, and all the years I’ve been doing fitness work, it’s great to feel like I’m starting at the beginning again with so much yet to come. To find that we’ve got access to this elite level of training on our doorstep is just awesome.”
Pierre Guillet (a Cage Rage/ UWC fighter) said “You’ve got the guys like Georges St-Pierre at the very top of the sport proving that this type of training is essential if you want to win. I’m really excited because I can totally see how I’m gonna benefit from this, but so can the younger guys coming through. It’s one thing to be shown these exercises, but to have you guys explain in the way you do is another. To know what you’re planning out for us is really exciting.”
When we get to the conditioning sessions, I’ll be sure to take some pictures so that you can share their pain :)
