Dan Martin (Extreme) at Core Cambridge

The lovely young gentleman before you in these pictures is a nutjob. Completely crazy. Ga Ga.

In May 2010, Dan will attempt to swim from Nova Scotia to France, then cycle from France to Alaska, and then run from Alaska to Nova Scotia. If your brain hasn’t melted and your eyes popped out on stalks in reading that, then we suggest you go back and read the sentence again.

Now we could be all nonchalent and cool on here about that fact that he’s giving this a go, but as it’s likely the single greatest feat of human endurance ever attempted, we reserve the right to be a little bit blown away.

When I originally took the phone call from Dan, he mentioned that he was a triathlete and had finished doing a large volume of cycling. I told him that was pretty standard for the people we coach and asked him what sort of distances he was talking about. “Well my last ride was 20,000 miles (32,000 Km) from Korea to Capetown in 426 days” he replied…

…”Ah.” I said.

Anyway, Dan’s been working with us to keep himself in one peice during the incredible volumes of training he’s undertaking (for example he’s swimming 5-8 hours per day, 20-30km at the moment), and to learn an exercise/stretching ‘toolkit’ he can use during his actual attempt to help him survive the fight each day.

More information on Dan’s forthcoming adventure can be found on his website.

It absolutely goes without saying that we all wish him the very best of luck.
